Values and Guidelines
for a Healthy Working Relationship
TRUST AND INTEGRITY
Confidentiality is very important. Only talk about the confidential or private concerns of your pastor, church officers, church members and community individuals with just those who need to know in order to bring about additional assistance.
When there is disagreement among the pastor or between church officers, church members or community individuals, go to them and try to reach an understanding. Don’t speak to everyone else about the person in a negative way or argue with them in public. Follow the principle of Matthew 18: 15-17.
Show trust in your pastor, church officers, church members community individuals by refraining from “policing” and “cross examining” them on every issue. Follow the principle of Matthew 7:12.
Say “I am sorry” when a mistake is made and ask for forgiveness. Remember the principle of Matthew 18:21-22.
Be authentic, transparent and be willing to be held accountable.
RESPECT
Speak with courtesy and regard to everyone we meet, even those who may be hard to get alone with.
Show each person is valued by creating “win-win” situations when opinions and needs are different from our own.
Listen carefully and ask questions to encourage the pastor and officers and all members to express their needs, concerns and ideas.
Reply to phone calls, faxes or emails within 24 hours or the next working day.
Include others in decisions that will affect them.
Give needed information to the appropriate person(s) in a timely manner.
DIGNITY
Be fair in the way the pastor, church officers, all church members and community individuals are treated.
Show that the contributions of the pastor, church officers, church members and community individuals are valued by saying “thank you.”
Respect the dignity of the pastor, church officers, church members and community individuals by not using statements that put them down or make fun of them, especially in front of others.
Always maintain the self-esteem of others while giving helpful feedback. We are all in the process of personal, spiritual and professional growth.
RESPONSIBILITY
Accept ownership of personal decisions, actions and attitudes. Choosing to be solution-focused and to have a positive attitude.
Give others honest and helpful feedback when their actions are creating a problem.
Seek God’s guidance in finding ways to improve ministry, the gospel outcome, to build faith in the Creator and accept ownership to make those improvements.
Quickly respond to and correct the pastor, officers, church members and community individuals’ problems and complaints in a positive manner.
Complete duties and assignments on time. Communicate with those who need to know if there will be a delay.
RIGHTEOUSNESS BY FAITH & SANCTIFICATION THROUGH CHRIST
Build good relationships with the pastor, officers, church members and community individuals. Follow the principle of Luke 2:52.
Create an upbeat, hopeful environment for the pastor, officers, church members and community individuals by looking for the positives. Seeing others through the eyes of Christ.
Give the pastor, officers, church members and community individuals’ positive feedback when their ideas, attitudes and actions are helpful.
Talk in a clear, concise and timely manner when asking others for information and assistance.
Look for ways to learn, develop and grow and encourage others to do the same.
Give others time and encouragement to finish what God has started in and through them.
Allow Christ’s prayer to be answered “that we may be one.” John 17: 21-23. One family working together.
